This (very small) photo was taken during a teachers' meeting at Great Vow Monastery in September, 2004; on the website of the teachers' association, it's the visual associated with a theme of "selfless service" or something to that effect.
Looking at it now, I realize I look exhausted. Guest Zen Teacher Nonin Chowaney is washing in the background. We are going full out.
At this time, the walk-in fridge was a welcome refuge: cool and pitch-dark; a place to stop the mind before turning around an re-entering the fray.
