Frozen Time

Twenty-five years ago I was behind these eyes. Thinking my ice was just a bit larger than my little sister's. Nothing special, nothing more than that.

That world is now gone; and the present world will have to be gone, too, before I can see this current life at all clearly.

My dad took this photograph--I don't think he ever had it printed. He had slides made, and recently scanned them. So the colors are truer than you might expect from an old photo.

I'm grateful that he took his camera on that winter walk out to our pond. To see this shot for the first time today gives me a feeling I can't describe. Like finding something I didn't know was lost; like finding out how much is in fact, lost.
