(I started to write this to Niall, and then thought, Why should I share my deepest thoughts only with a 19-year-old zen prodigy in Northern Ireland? Surely others can relate as well. It's not so complicated.)
When I left the monastery I had the idea that life in the outside world would seem very concrete. But no. The impression that things are constantly falling apart continues. As does the experience of consciousness rooted largely in a mythic realm.
In fact, it's getting worse. Because so much more can happen when events are not bound by routine and schedule, there are many more opportunities for mysterious themes and coincidences to congeal. This "normal" life is thoroughly magical and beyond understanding.
